About ERoSH

ERoSH was launched in 1997, following the successful Emerging Role of the Warden project which focused on the role of sheltered housing within effective community care.

Today, ERoSH is a registered charity with an influential membership across the UK drawn from local authorities, housing associations and related organisations and individuals working with and on behalf of older people and the sheltered and retirement housing sector.

Our aims are:

  • To raise awareness and illustrate the viability and benefits of the range of sheltered housing and related support services
  • To promote the community resources of sheltered housing schemes
  • To promote and influence joint working, both operational and strategic
  • To disseminate cost-effective and modern models/methods of good practice.

One of our principal strategic business aims is to work with people and organisations, openly and collaboratively, involving service users, partners and stakeholders in the decisions we make to improve housing and support for existing and future sheltered housing residents:

  • By encouraging members and the sector as a whole, to use our checklists in collaboration with their respective primary care trusts and social services.
  • By maintaining and building upon our existing relationships with policy makers and advisers within central and local government.
  • By creating the opportunities for ERoSH members to network and share best practice.

We have the support of a wide range of professional partners including the National Housing Federation, the Chartered Institute of Housing, Age Concern England, Help the Aged, the Centre for Housing & Support and the Elderly Accommodation Counsel.
