ERoSH members celebrate UK Older People's Day - Oct 1 2008

ERoSH members took part in UK Older People's Day on on 1 October 2008 to celebrate older people making a difference across the UK. This year's theme of bringing generations together to share knowledge and experience was a success, with many of the events being celebrated by young and old alike.

We hope to bring you more stories of how ERoSH members celebrated across the country. If you have a story or pciture to send us, please email our website editor

In Northern Ireland (photo below and far right): four ERoSH member associations - Fold, Clanmil, North & West and Oaklee - used the day to launch a new forum that aims to improve tenant participation and service delivery and to promote awareness of age, equality, health and well being of tenants. Sixty tenants and guests gathered to network and to learn about health and community safety. The launch included displays of tenants' work, movement to music, workshops and a tea dance. The guest speaker was broadcaster and journalist, Anita Robinson. Tenants of the four Associations will continue to meet on a quarterly basis, hosted in turn by each of the four associations.

Three Valleys Housing (photo below) held two 'Coffee, cakes and crafts' events on 3 October, where more than 100 residents joined staff for a craft demonstration at two of their community rooms. They also held a raffle and raised more than £280 for Macmillan Cancer Support and the Breast Cancer Campaign.
