Silver Surfers' Day needs you!
Silver Surfers' Day 2006 is going to be bigger and better than ever.
In 2006, the organisers, Digital Unite (formerly Hairnet UK) and NIACE, want to achieve a step-change in the number of over-50s who have a good first experience of the internet, in a friendly, local, easily accessible environment (anywhere, from pub to college, from sheltered housing to library, from bingo hall to council office, from auction house to community room).
ERoSH is a Silver Surfers' Day coalition partner.
In order to create the events, they need event-holders to put something in their calendars NOW, ready to receive their new, all-singing, all-dancing resource that will give them step-by-step advice on how to achieve their event and gather in lots of shining over-50s to their venue!
They are also hinting that in 2006, for the first time, there will be small grants that can be applied for to help with expenses of running events, so things are looking up!
So, have a think. Can your organisation commit one to seven hours during the week beginning May 22 to an activity that will give any over-50s in your locality a pleasant, exciting encounter with internet/email/webcams?
If you can, or even if you're not sure, drop a line to silver@digitalunite.net and you'll be added to an event-holders list that will get email information about resources to help you, including grants, as the campaign gathers momentum.
NIACE have already scheduled Friday, 26 May 2006 as Silver Surfers' Day, once again part of Adult Learners' Week and Digital Unite will be managing.
