ODI publishes guidance on common parts of let residential premises

The Office for Disability Issues has published guidance to help landlords, management companies and tenants in England and Wales to better understand their rights and responsibilities when making common parts of residential buildings more accessible.

Some disabled people are finding it difficult to make alterations to the common parts of the places they live more accessible to them. 'Overcoming barriers to access in the common parts of let residential premises in England and Wales' highlights issues that landlords and tenants need to consider when requests for these types of alterations are made.

The guidance also gives a brief overview of disability legislation in relation to premises and signposts both landlords and tenants to further information that may be useful in these circumstances.
