Letter to the Editor, Inside Housing 27 February 2009

Dear Mr Macdonald,

The news item 'Fresh look at support plans' (Inside Housing 27 February 2009) was misleading regarding ERoSH's position on the recent Help the Aged report. We consider the recommendation that resident wardens should be retained by majority vote is unrealistic and unwise - your news item omitted the crucial word resident. We have outlined before (Letters, 24 October 2008) the reasons why some providers have moved away from employing resident wardens and stated the range of positive alternatives to that model of service delivery.

We welcome the announcement of the Ministerial working group to look at a wide range of issues in relation to sheltered housing (service delivery models and service user engagement being two key elements) and we are pleased to have been invited to join this group.

Yours sincerely,

Imogen Parry

Director of Policy, ERoSH
