A touch of glamour at Drift Court
Sisters Shirley Browne and Josie Iron certainly know how to make their flats looks truly amazing. On arrival at Josie's flat a warm and welcoming impression immediately struck us. The interior design concept of this flat is attractive and completely glamorous. The baroque glamour refers to the owners' character, which has a high taste in design and arts.
Josie has been a resident at Drift Court, a scheme managed by ERoSH member Orwell Housing Association, for four months now, although a regular visitor much before that as her sister Shirley has lived at Drift Court for nearly 15 months. In that time Josie's flair for interior design has been passed onto her sister, who like Josie has a flat of immense character.
Shirley commented, 'I'm just the gofer! Josie is the artistic one; together we have transformed my flat. I chose white walls throughout to make the flat look much more spacious, it then enabled me to add splashes of bright colour to each room. I absolutely love my flat, it is my home and wanted to live in an environment I felt happy with.'
Shirley's flat looks spacious, clean and bright. In the lounge she has beautiful shades of red, large mirrors, co-ordinated chandeliers and individual pieces of furniture. She has painted her kitchen cupboards, completely revamped her bathroom and has a lovely cosy bedroom.
Josie studied fashion for a year at the London College of Fashion in 1964 but eventually went into a career as a florist. Her artistic streak certainly shows in the work she has done to her flat and her sisters. Josie also paints and has done some amazing oil canvassers, which can be seen in her flat.
Josie commented, 'I am very artistic, I love colour, especially pink and anything that is bright, my love of fashion and art has been brought into my home. Both Shirley and myself collect Teddies and Cherubs too, which you can see in most of the rooms! Like Shirley I love my flat and want to take care of it, it is so homely and I enjoy being here.'
Josie's flat is much brighter than Shirley's, she has pink everywhere! From softer shades to vibrant pinks mixed with gold's the flat has a flamboyant style. Her kitchen has been repainted and she has cleverly put some wonderful accessories in the kitchen. Her bathroom and bedroom again are wonderful, clean, tidy and bright.
Bright like the ladies personalities! Shirley and Josie are having such fun living at Drift Court, they love having people around them, organising parties and going out. In fact Josie is off to Ibiza with her daughter next month. Shirley and Josie both feel that living in sheltered accommodation is not a green card to start feeling old and to stop enjoying life. With their artistic flats and the life they both seem to be leading, it is a far cry from that!
