Silver Surfers Day 2010

Silver Surfers Day, the biggest national campaign to promote use of digital technologies by older people, will celebrate its ninth successful year on Friday, May 21st.

The event, which is organised by Digital Unite, sees organisations all over the UK open their doors and give older people a taste of what the digital world has to offer them.

Silver Surfers Day is for anyone working with older people and is passionate about supporting them to become digitally literate.

Events promote digital skills and digital technology for older people but it is up to the event organiser as to the format of the event. Digital Unite has plenty of suggestions and learning materials for organisers to use, but individuals can decide if they explore the web, do some digital photography, set up blogs, Tweet for the day, use a Wii or gaming to entice people in.

After 400 event holders managed to run more than 1,000 events in 2009, Silver Surfers Day 2010 is going to be even bigger.

For the first time this year, Digital Unite has an online Event Holder Forum for people interested in holding an event to ask questions and get ideas from other event holders.

There will be lots of exciting announcements between now and the big day and the best way to keep up to date is to visit the website or call 0800 822 3951.

Registration is now open for people to register their events.
