The Get Digital programme is up and running!
A beneficial Government-backed programme is providing grant awards to help benefit people living in sheltered accommodation to become part of the digitally included society.
The awards allow for 195 schemes in England to be provided with the skills, equipment and confidence to use computers and the internet - and the wonderful rich world that this mix provides.
Digital Unite is providing the hardware, software and expert training to the schemes which are successful in applying for grants - with each scheme having around 15 learning sessions.
A strong focus is placed upon the sessions being fun and self-paced but with a strong theme of sustainability. It is easy to generate and maintain short term excitement and involvement whilst the equipment is new and the trainers are regularly attending the site - but what happens beyond the end of the training plan is vitally important.
The Get Digital project aims to ensure that each site has a strong onwards usage plan, supported from within the scheme and through the use of local, regional and national partners.
The application process and delivery is split into four regions with the first two geographies generating an incredible 200+ requests for grant award - this has meant that there was a one in four chance of gaining the grant. This is stiff competition, with the successful awards being allocated to schemes which have put thought, engagement and creativity into their submissions.
There are still opportunities for submission and potential grant award - so go to the Get Digital website for more information.
