Green fingered residents grow their own

Residents at Pentre Mawr, a sheltered housing scheme in Abergele, are beginning to reap the rewards of their hard work as their gardening project is now coming to fruition.

Residents at the scheme run by Clwyd Alyn Housing Association, which is a part of ERoSH member Pennaf Housing Group, have been selling the produce locally.

They have grown lettuce and spring onions, and the money raised is then used to finance the seeds and materials for next year.

The greenhouse is very productive, with tomatoes, cucumber, asparagus and various seedlings all doing well.

They have also grown strawberries, blackcurrants, gooseberries and blueberries in pots and hanging baskets. In addition apple, pear and plum trees have been planted but have yet to mature to yield fruit.

While many of the residents help out with the project, those who are not physically able to take part show an interest and encourage the others.
