ERoSH members invited to suggest topics for APPG work plan

Members are being invited to put forward key topics in housing and care for older people that they would like to see the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) tackle.

ERoSH chair Jo McTavish represented ERoSH at the APPG on housing and care for older people in July.

Following the first meeting the group is looking to draw up a work plan for 2010-11 and are discussing which topics should be addressed through the work of the group.

In the first meeting since the new parliament was formed, issues raised included the Coalition's view that public health services had to be a Government wide commitment and not just the responsibility of the Department of Health, delivery of efficient pathways for people who need care but do not know or understand the system and the potential to unlock funding for care, possibly from the equity in an older persons home. As a huge number of additional resources will be required due to the number of older people needing to access care co-funding will be essential.

Jo McTavish explained: "The APPG on care and housing for older people is keen to find out what topics should be addressed in its work plan for this and subsequent sessions of parliament.

"Input from ERoSH members would be extremely valuable in shaping the work that the group can conduct. In our lobbying role as the national consortium for sheltered and retirement housing we can play an important role in influencing the future of sheltered and retirement housing especially in flagging the valuable asset that it offers."
